Here's what people are saying about THE SECRET OF DEAD MAN'S MINE.
School Library Journal - A thematically rich story that handles friendship, death, and familial love in a subtle and tender manner…Strong characterization, fast-paced action, and well-structured chapters make for an interesting mystery that will keep readers guessing. Rinnah is a strong, independent, and resourceful protagonist who takes pride in her Native American heritage, and the author's exploration of contemporary Native American culture is insightful and interesting.

About.com - The Secret of Dead Man's Mine has all the elements of a good juvenile mystery; spunky kids, horses, a hint of danger, lots of action, and of course, a good mystery to solve…I think the author has hit it right on with just enough action and scariness to keep the older kids interested, but not too much to scare off the younger ones. The characters are good role models. They respect their parents, but also try to get away with a few things now and then. They take some chances, but know when to get help…A definite must read. I look forward to future Rinnah Two Feathers mysteries.

Reviewlutions.com - This is such a great book for kids! It's educational, entertaining, and it kept me on the edge of my seat…I think one of the best things about this book is that it's so subtly educational. The reader learns about the foods, beliefs, and customs of Rinnah and her people and it's all intertwined so perfectly throughout the story that you barely realize you're learning anything until it's over. How does Johnson manage to hide the fact that we're learning as we read? He's an exciting writer!…This is a fantastic story with very real characters. Johnson truly captures what it is to be 13, complete with the requisite sarcasm, slang, and eye rolls, but he does so without talking down to his reader…It's a must-have for any young reader.

The Plot Thickens (Mysterious Galaxy) - Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden, shove over. A new youthful sleuth for the millennium has appeared, and her name is Rinnah Two Feathers…The illustrations by Jill Thompson, of "Scary Godmother" fame, perfectly complement the exuberant storytelling.
